Getting drunk

I thought that getting drunk was not only a sin but a fairly serious sin. Even so, there are a number of Orthodox on YouTube who sometimes get drunk and it doesn't seem to worry them.

Am I perhaps wrong that getting drunk is a serious sin? Is the serious sin perhaps only alcoholism and not getting drunk occasionally?

I think it is. I come from a family that is dependent upon substances, and I have an illness. I don't get drunk, but I am on medications.

I think that a sin comes to be serious when you don't want to stop doing it, when you like it more and more and even try to explain why you do it, these are all traits of a serious sin, IMHO.

Yeah, getting drunk or being drunk all the time is a serious sin. In the OT it is addressed too l, as with the NT. The priest in the OT were admonished concerning it. I love when St. Paul says " a little wine is good for the belly" the drunkard acts like the term is relative. Paul's little is not their little. I may think a half a glass or so with dinner is a little, while a bottle or two is the drunkard's. I hear drunkards say" Christ drank wine and too provided more wine when all had their fill at the Wedding Feast at Canaan". I think they confuse Christ's own occasional drinking (as a guest ), in moderation; the celebratory drinking on special occasions, as a bottle or two with daily shots to boot, on-par with biblical accounts.

Clearly, daily extreme alcohol consumption is not comparable, but those who love it will twist anything, including biblical accounts in moderation to justify their extreme.

So, what do you do if you are concerned that a Priest is drinking and sharing it on social media? Say, the Chancellor of Diocese of the South OCA were to post his vacation escapades with pictures of alcoholic drinks in many posts, even during Lent. Would this be concerning to the faithful Orthodox Christians who are attempting to refrain from drinking and attempting to keep the fasts? Are such things common in those who hold positions in the church leadership?
