 Be Still, My Soul: Meditations Through the Heart (Collection of Poetry)

Post by TempleoftheLivingGod »

Hello everyone, I would like to share with you some poetry about our beautiful faith. In a world often filled with noise, distraction and constant movement, there lies an unshakable call to be still. Be Still, My Soul is a collection of poems drawn from my own search for that sacred stillness, where the heart communes with the Divine in the quiet of trust, awe and reverence. I will post a poem every couple of days on this thread to help you with your journey with Christ. This thread is an invitation for anyone who wishes to dive deeply into themes of faith, transformation, and hope. These verses explore the central mysteries of our faith: the Incarnation, the Trinity, our spiritual journey and the eschatological hope of eternity. Through each of these sections the poems seek to touch upon the timeless truths and endless mercy found in a life of Orthodoxy.

With each line I’ve tried to reflect the love of a God who is both infinitely beyond us and yet closer than our very breath. These poems reach toward understanding Christ’s redemptive work, the awe-inspiring nature of the Holy Trinity, and the struggles we encounter on our path of faith. My aim is to capture those glimpses of divine presence that often slip through words, moments that reveal God’s abiding love and call us to rest in His presence.

My hope is that these poems offer companionship in moments of solitude and that, together, we can find strength, peace and joy in the presence of the One who calls us all to be still and know Him.

The Spirit of Truth

Sin slipped into the world through one man’s mistake;
With a serpentine grip like that of a cobra, that old snake.
From the tree of good and evil, forbidden fruit in which they did partake;
Yet through Christ’s redemption, hung on that cross, did our souls become awake.
For this reason, death dominated from Adam’s dawn to Christ’s conquering light;
For if the many perished through the mistake of one man and his wife,
How much more did God’s glorious grace
Overflow to the many in magnificent might!
Just as sin slipped into the world through one man;
Sin was also silenced through one man:
Jesus Christ, Son of God,
Saviour of mankind and sure Saviour of our souls.
He Himself bore our sins in His body on the cross;
So that we might die to sins;
And live for righteousness;
And by His wounds we are healed.
Hope in Christ holds us high and never humiliates the humble;
For God’s love has been poured into our hearts through the Holy Spirit,
Who has been graciously given to us.
Sent from heaven above,
At the most perfect, predestined moment,
When we were still powerless and pathetic;
Christ died for the ungodly; the unworthy.
To fulfil what was written and prophetic,
What we have received is not the Spirit of this fallen world;
But the Spirit who is from God;
So that we may grasp and glorify what God has freely given to us:
The promise of life.
And a promise from Christ;
“And I will ask the Father;
And He will give you another Advocate to aid you and abide with you forever—
The Spirit of truth.
The world cannot welcome Him;
Because it neither sees Him nor knows Him.
But you know Him;
For He dwells with you.
He will testify about Me.
He will guide you into all truth.
He will not speak on His own; He will speak only what He hears;
And He will disclose to you what is yet to come.”
For through Him we both have access to the Father by one Spirit;
Consequently, you are no longer foreigners and strangers;
But fellow citizens with God’s people and also members of His household;
Built on the foundation of the apostles and prophets,
With Christ Jesus Himself as the chief cornerstone.
In Him the whole building is joined together and rises to become a holy temple in the Lord;
And in Him, you too are being built together,
To become a dwelling in which God lives by His Spirit.
For when the kindness and love of God appeared,
He saved us;
Not because of righteous things we had done;
But because of His mercy.
He saved us through the washing of rebirth and renewal by the Holy Spirit;
Whom He poured out on us generously through Jesus Christ our Saviour;
So that, having been justified by His grace,
We might become heirs having the hope of eternal life—
A living hope.
And finally, brothers and sisters;
If Christ be in you,
The body is dead because of sin;
But the Spirit is life because of righteousness.
Now may the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace as you trust in Him;
So that you may overflow with hope by the power of the Holy Spirit.
The love of God;
The grace of the Lord Jesus Christ;
And the fellowship of the Holy Spirit be with you all.
Amen.

The Stone Rejected

The stone the builders rejected has become the cornerstone;
May He judge Your people in righteousness;
Your afflicted ones with justice.
The Lord says to my lord:
“Sit at My right hand until I make Your enemies a footstool for Your feet.”
The Father says to the Son:
“Your throne, O God, will last forever and ever;
A sceptre of justice will be the sceptre of Your kingdom.”
And furthermore:
“You are My Son; today I have begotten You.
Ask of Me, and I will give You the nations for Your inheritance,
And the ends of the earth for Your possession.
You shall break them with a rod of iron;
You shall dash them to pieces like a potter’s vessel.”
I keep my eyes always on the Lord;
With Him at my right hand, I will not be shaken.
Therefore, my heart is glad, and my tongue rejoices;
My body also will rest secure, because You will not abandon me to the realm of the dead,
Nor will You let your faithful one see decay.
You make known to me the path of life;
You will fill me with joy in Your presence,
Lord, save us;
Lord, grant us success!
Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord.
May His name endure forever; may it continue as long as the sun.
Then all nations will be blessed through Him, and they will call Him blessed.
Praise be to His glorious name forever; may the whole earth be filled with His glory.
I cried to Him with my mouth and He was extolled with my tongue.
If I regard iniquity in my heart,
The Lord will not hear.
But certainly, God has heard me; He has listened to the voice of my prayer.
Blessed be the God who has not turned away my prayer,
Nor turned His mercy from me;
All glory and praise to the most perfect Trinity.
